    The master's thesis was inspired by conventional 3D-printing technologies. Novel 3D composite lattice structures imply superior mechanical properties, therefore, makes them an ideal candidate for new ultralight core materials. New concepts such as the Cuboct were develped at MIT and proved feasible for future applications. Nevertheless, there is no commercially applicable manufacturing route in industry, yet.I developed a new technique which enables a freeform extrusion of continuous composite material. The project included an extensive literature research, prototype design, manufacturing of the prototype, investigation of processing conditions, numercial simulation and experimental validation. The technique proved promising and was patented by my brother, Florian Eichenhofer, and myself throughout the course of the thesis (DE102014006706A1).

    My work assignment involved the development and supervision of a "zero gravity laboratory" at the University of Zurich. The project called ARES was set to investigate the mutation of human cells exposed to zero gravity. In order to simulate zero gravity conditions for a certain period of time, the team developed a portable laboratory that can be deployed and installed in a F16 fighter jet of the Swiss military. The fighter jet follows a desired trajectory of a parable to create zero gravity conditions.
