Managed the underwriting and operations for the Small Commercial unit of the Technology and Life Science Practice, a $300M+ book of business. Lines include professional liability (P&L), property, liability, BOP, auto, workers compensation, and cyber liability. Worked very closely with sales leaders and marketing to drive new business growth and building brand awareness with our Agents & Brokers Reorganized reporting structure and increased efficiency by 50%. Implemented underwriting protocols and operations to streamline the workflow for approximately 40 underwriters. The new practices created clarity in processes. Over time, productivity increased creating a workload share across 3 offices. New hires trained 50% faster saves department approximately $20,000 annually. To increase efficiency, partnered with team to develop a training rotation program and online training journal for new hires. Most new trainees were productive 6 weeks after graduation, rather than 12, saving $5-10K per training class. Creation of Underwriting Guidelines contributes to 18% company growth. To increase underwriters’ knowledge in making informed decisions with all of the variants in the vast types of technology operations and exposures, a focus group was created to research and develop a comprehensive underwriting guide on the most common subjects. Complete Underwriting Guidelines were created. This two-year project contributed to a 6-8% increase in new business and 10% decrease in lost opportunities on an annual basis. Agent training program drives new submissions 20-25% and increases new written premiums 15-20%. Designed and delivered a comprehensive, new technology and life sciences training program for agents throughout the country. Each month a self-produced webinar covered topics to enhance knowledge, gain enthusiasm, and increase sales. 300 participants with an average participation rate of 75%.
