This work has led to the identification of a set of linguistic markers that humans use to indicate the presentation of coherence relevant information.- Investigating and modelling human information processing behaviour during (collaborative) problem solving with information-rich data sources. Eventually, this will feed into an improved understanding of how humans acquire, store, retrieve and apply mental representations. I am involved in a variety of (computer) applications of this work too.Specific projects involve - investigating human communication patterns and decision making mechanisms and how the design of external information sources can be improved to support these strategies.One application here is a software program that I have developed that is currently in use to assist humans to filter task relevant information from huge, unstructured data bases or information repositories.- investigating human information acquisition strategies during collaborative problem solving and communication and whether effectiveness can be supported by highlighting particular information elements based on sophisticated analysis of human information presentation strategies.One application here is the automatic configuration of cameras during high end videoconferencing to support communication & collaboration. - investigating the effectiveness of particular tactile effectors in the processing of tactile information for identifying and understanding objects and which mechanisms are invoked to represent this in the brain and how this is linked to information from other sensory modalities.One application here is a tactile device that can be used to assist, for example, humans with visual impairments to navigate and interact with the world or that could be used to mitigate the effect of hypervigilance to certain stimuli.
