MARTIN HUNTER Martin Hunter has been a child actor, a junior diplomat, a free-wheeling sales executive, a sharp-shooting journalist and an innovative philanthropist but his first and continuing passion is the theatre, in which he has worked as actor, director, writer and producer for the past seventy years. As Artistic Director of Hart House Theatre in the 1970's he directed some forty productions at theatres on the University of Toronto campus. As a playwright he has had plays professionally produced including Out Flew the Web in 1967, Baby Grand in 1980 Power Play in 1992, Liars' Dice in 1997 as well as many radio dramas and documentaries for C.B.C. radio. In 2001 he published Romancing the Bard; Stratford at Fifty, a look at the first half century of the Stratford Festival. In 2008 he published Young Hunting, a memoir of the first twenty-five years of his life. A sequel, Still Hunting, will appear in 2012. He has also written a collection of short stories to be published by Cormorant Books in 2012 or 2013.His latest play The Gentleman Caller, a memory play about Tennessee Williams, will be produced at Hart House Theatre in October 2011.In recent years he has directed a number of productions at Hart House Theatre as well as productions at The Arts and Letters Club of Toronto.Martin Hunter is the President of the K.M. Hunter Charitable Foundation which has developed a program of Artist Awards. Over $500,000 has been awarded to some 90 developing artists.
