I am delighted to serve as a member of the Advisory Board to the KSU Department of Information Systems and Security. I believe that, as leaders, we need to be engaged with the next generation of information security professionals to give them the best opportunity to succeed.

Over a ten year period I built the cybersecurity program at Northside Hospital from the ground up. My responsibilities included:- Strategy creation, budget drafting, and gaining consensus from Senior Leaders- Ensuring compliance with the HIPAA Security Rule and The Joint Commission requirements- Planning and executing on implementation of security technology- Planning and coordinating Incident Response across IT and other Northside business areas- Establishing and growing a Third Party Risk program- Deploy effective security awareness training across the enterpriseDuring my tenure at Northside the program shifted gears several times to accommodate business strategies and requirements. This included the acquisition of a large 3 hospital system, the COVID-19 Pandemic, as well as acquisition of several hundred individual practices across the entire state of Georgia.-

As WellStar's Director of Information Security I was responsible for the information security posture of a 5 hospital, 13,000 employee integrated health network. I was responsible for system-wide information security policy, ensuring compliance with HIPAA and PCI, and with guiding the information security strategy.I led a successful program to transform information security from a purely reaction driven / compliance oriented practice to a group of highly motivated professionals that have created a strong blend of pragmatic security policy and processes that not only ensure compliance but reduce risk through innovative approaches to the very complex world that is healthcare information security. This transformation was made possible through a comprehensive technology overhaul, successful hiring of key staff, and leveraging normal business growth to "build security in" wherever possible.During my tenure I evaluated the existing infrastructure and removed/replaced systems yielding a $700K operational saving while improving service levels and reliability. I overhauled enterprise security policies, designed and implemented a full HIPAA Risk Assessment process, and created a governance body of senior business and IT leaders to begin to manage risk at appropriate levels.

Contract position in the Office of the Chief Security Officer

I managed the Delta Air Lines CSIRT. This team is responsible for responding to all network security incidents as well as coordination with Delta's Corporate Security Department on the overall security of the airline. The team consists of an OpCenter, Threat Analysis Center, and Computer Investigations Detail. Additionally, I led the IT Continuity of Business/Emergency Response team which plans all disaster recovery activities as well as the IT response in the event of an aircraft accident.I managed acquisition and processing of all electronic discovery requests at Delta including very large (17 TB+) productions for government regulators.

Various positions in application development, project management, business support including lead management of migration to Microsoft XP, management of ClearCase environment, and supporting Corporate Security & Senior Executives.

Started on the Help Desk, moved to working on a major pharma account support pen-based SFA, finally moved to the internal network support group prior to departing in November of 1997.

I worked providing custom installation, integration, and operations support to larger service bureau customers for UTS. This included on-site training, network consulting, and operations planning for large scale tax preparation networks.

Originally enlisted in GaARNGs 1/108th Armor (part of the 48th Infantry Brigade) as a 19K (Armor Crewman).Commissioned into the US Army Reserve as a Second Lieutenant (Armor) in 1990.Served as tank platoon leader, support platoon leader, and liason officer in HHC and several line companies.
