I am 75 years old. For the last ten years I have been a retired software engineer. I had some income from Social Security and from some business ventures, and I had some savings. In 2021, my health declined, and I was diagnosed with cancer. Most of 2022 was devoted to treatment. The good news is that the cancer is gone, and my health has returned. The bad news is that my savings are depleted, and the business ventures have languished. I am looking for gainful employment. I would prefer to work in the software arena, but I am open.I did software development professionally from 1984 until 2010. From 1985 to 1991, at Hughes Aircraft, I was a project engineer on a NASA project called Magellan. This was a spacecraft that mapped the surface of Venus using radar. I did software development and systems engineering for both the uplink and downlink sides of the project. This included producing over 4000 pages of documentation including a user’s guide and a detailed design document. From 1991 to 1994, I was a customer support engineer and a test programmer for two IBM operating systems: PC DOS and OS/2. From 1994 to 1997, I was a developer for Nabanco, a credit card processing firm that was acquired by First Data in 1996. I was the sole developer for a suite of programs for the Marriott Hotels that helped Nabanco to dramatically enlarge their business with Marriott. From 1997 to 2007, I held various contracting positions with logistics firms, mortgage firms, and insurance firms. From 2007 to 2010, I was software developer at eFunds, a debit card processing company that was acquired by Fidelity Information Services. I have programmed in a dozen different languages on multiple platforms. I have done testing and documentation. I have designed databases, and I have developed database applications. I am skilled with standard software applications such as Word, Excel, Access, and others.My last professional experience was in 2010, but I have kept somewhat up to date. For example, I have learned Python and WordPress since then.I have other useful skills. At various points in my career, I have done both sales and clerical work, and I am quite willing to do those again.As I said above, I am seeking employment in the software arena. This could be anything: testing, documentation, coding, even data entry. My expectations regarding remuneration are very flexible. I am willing to work as either an employee or as a contractor.
