About Martin Korevaar
I have always been working on modeling of very distinct processes. From blood flow in bloodvessels, to electrostatic charging of powder blown through a pipe; and the removal by activated carbon of organic compounds dissolved in water. These models used to be only suitable for research or scenario studies but in recent years this has changed due an increase in computational power and, what's more, the rapid evolution of software(platforms) that allow easy deployment of (AI) models and dashboards; including the integration with (sufficiently) up-to-date data. This allows for a much more detailed and up-to-date insight into processes, for example the ones mentioned above. As a consequence, utilization of models changes from research and scenario planning to operational environments. My interests have shifted in line with these developments and in recent years I am researching the digitalization of and for water companies to allow them to leverage these new applications in operational digital twins and their digital transition in general. My strong analytical background in modelling and engineering allows me to help them understand the technical difficulties, while my people skills allows me to show them which organizational and interpersonal barriers need to be tackled in this process.
Listed skills include Simulations, Fluid Dynamics, Matlab, Cfd, and 24 others.

Phd Candidate
PhD project in order to extend a 3D DEM-CFD (two-phase) model which describes the contact charging of particles that are pneumatically conveyed through narrow channels. Challenges:- Validation experiments for which I needed to develop adaptation of the PIV algorithm.- Correct and efficient modelling of forces: The qualitatively poorly understood lift force and the inherently expensive electrostatic force.- Derivation of a contact charging model based on difficult single particle charging experiments; detailed knowledge of contact charging is still lacking in literature. Presentation:All work was published in highly ranked peer-reviewed journals and also orally presented at several international conferences. Planning: In order to bring the project to a good end, I needed to plan my activities carefully and I needed to do this in cooperation with several parties: industrial partners, academic partners in the Netherlands and Japan. Supervising and teaching: I developed supervising skills when I was supervising several students for their Bachelor graduation project. I also partook in educational tasks when I teached the instructions of 'Transport Phenomena' and 'Introduction to Chemical Engineering'.
Master Thesis (Cardiovascular) Fluid Dynamics.
The aim of the master project was to develop a 1D generation-propagation model of secondary flow that occurs due to curves in tubes. This 1D model was derived from 3D CFD (FEM) simulations of a variety of curved tubes. A 1D measure was proposed (enstrophy) together with a generation-propagation model to describe the secondary flow as function of time, Reynolds number and curvature ratio.
