Germany has a very good system of vocational education and training. However, to those that do not manage to enter a VET-program and/or obtain a vocational or higher educational degree the German labour market is rather unforgiving. In times of demographic and technological change, Germany cannot continue to let the informally or non-formally acquired competences of the so called "low qualified" go unused. Thus at Bertelsmann Stiftung, a private foundation in Germany, my colleagues and I are working towards introducing Validation of Prior Learning (VPL) in Germany. I am responsible for the development of a number of tools for making skills visible, e.g. the Competence Cards, Career Cards and my-professional-experience.org. At the same time I am drafting policy papers and conducting/commissioning research on the topic. Between 2012 and 2016 I was managing a team of 6 trying to increase participation in further education in Germany, especially for people with lower education background and migrants. Bertelsmann Stiftung aims to identify social problems and challenges at an early stage and develop exemplary solutions to address them.Before that I coordinated all knowledge transfer and consulting activities at the Jacobs Center on Lifelong Learning and Institutional Development at Jacobs University. Their Consulting and Teaching expertise revolves around successful age management practices in the areas of health management, diversity management, climate management, competence management and experience management.I have applied experience in customer satisfaction research and questionnaire development. Additionally I have been training adults in professional competencies for example social skills, time management, and problem solving skills.
