Enhancing the governance, risk and control of a growing global manufacturing company, working in oil and gas and the renewables sector. Key player in transactional due diligence.

Responsible for the audit plan and giving assurance for a £1 billion family-owned construction company. Helped the business to develop cost-effective and practical risk management for a tightened market with greater risk and less margin, in particular concerning higher risk of counterparty failure.

Established a new audit function within London's biggest housebuilder. Also made major improvements and cost savings to the Group's insurance programme, for which I was responsible.

Responsible for the audit of the risk management function, mostly involving the credit function and a £300 billion loanbook. Heavy regulatory exposure, including reporting to the FSA. Also involved in the audit and risk management over the combining of RBS with NatWest.

As part of a rotation within the NatWest Group, I took over the internal audit and fraud function of a major asset finance subsidiary, leading a large team. The tenure included a large corporate sale and reorganisation.

Start of a 7-year spell with NatWest/RBS. Led the audit service to structured finance and asset management elements of an investment bank. Major highpoint was a high level governance review of Gartmore, an asset management subsidiary.

Achieved rapid promotion to the head of a large audit department in the rapidly-expanding Chinese market. Delivered external audit and tax services to wide-ranging client mix, but with a particular focus on banking and import/export businesses.

Learnt the essence of auditing across a wide-ranging client portfolio, incl. banking, publishing, FMCG, legal. Obtained my chartered accountancy qualification.
