Originally trained in engineering, I am a qualified management accountant with a keen interest in numbers. I am passionate about business intelligence in the widest sense. I am equally at home working with start-ups on business plans, established businesses on product, service or customer profitability, or the owners of infrastructure on optimising the maintenance of their assets. I have a broad perspective founded on sound academics and international experience gained over more than three decades. I bring an analytical approach to governance and to decision-making in both the operational and capital environment. A founding member of an NHS property company with more than 5,000 staff, c£4bn of assets and an annual turnover of >£800m. I have been a board member during tumultuous change in leadership, data, systems and processes. I have chaired (or been a member of) the Audit Committee at several large and complex organisations. I am equally at home discussing operational finance and performance in various sectors. Hands-on advisor to early revenue businesses providing guidance on performance tracking, reporting to stakeholders and growth strategies. I have helped to steer large public sector organisations through mergers and provided oversight of critical capital investment programmes.For numerous SMEs I have provided a bridge from non-financial data to their management accounts, enabling insights that, until recently, were only accessible to large corporates. I believe strongly in 'Doing the Right Thing'. This is partly about me giving something back and partly about being prepared to stand-up and be counted when necessary. Thoughtful, I bring a focus to informed decision-making and enjoy a sense of achievement when I can pass-on the knowledge gained on my journey to others.
