Delivered the South East's Regional Funding Advice to Government - integrating investment priorities for transport, economic development, skills and housing and regeneration (amounting to £1.3 bn of investment per annum): advice influential in shaping Government spending reviews.Substantive role combined with Corporate Business Planning for South East England Development Agency; joint role created to improve linkages between spatial planning and economic development.Developed governance and accountability arrangements for the Regional Infrastructure Fund: an innovative public sector pump priming fund that delivered infrastructure the cost of which was then recovered through the planning system (2 projects delivered - value £15m).

Managed final stage of preparing the South East Plan (20-year statutory plan), worked with the Political leadership to gain support for its submission to Government; presented the case for the Plan at independent examination: Plan found to be sound with 95% of policies accepted without alteration.Created ground breaking approach to prioritisation for transport investment; used this to support the case for establishing the first Regional Transport Board in the country.Created integrated approach to infrastructure planning: brought together separate implementation plans into a single strategic document used to engage with infrastructure providers, including utilities governed by independent economic regulators.

Part of the corporate management team that established the secretariat required to deliver statutory regional planning functions: created strong working relationships with Assembly members (74 local authority leaders, 37 representatives from busines, voluntary and community sectors).Provided leadership on strategic transport planning: established the technical team and forged strong working relationships with Government departments.Created the first Regional Transport Strategy for the South East: a strategy that continues to influence transport policy across the South East of England.

Principal link between the Government Office and local authority Chief Officers in Surrey, West and East Sussex on transport planning and policy issues: advisor to central Departments on South East regional planning issues.
