Financial Advisor - MineShell Feb 2016 - May 2017Fort Mcmurray, AlbertaLocated on site, I provided strong, effective support to major lines of business with total spend over $600M for Mine Mobile Maintenance and Mine Production for both the Muskeg River and the Jackpine mines at the Shell Albian Oilsands. Initially, I participated in the month-end accounting cycle by creating accruals and Journal entries; however, as the team was shifting to more value-added activities I helped to offshore routine tasks surrounding month-end requirements. The result was that my focus shifted to a finance-in- business team, where I was heavily involved in driving cost-leadership initiatives with business partners that saved to company millions of dollars (e.g. – rent vs. buy, tire life, large vendors such as Finning, etc…). I provided insight and help stakeholders to understand a multitude of issues affecting their business and identify opportunities for enhancements. I frequently utilized large data dumps from SAP and manipulate data into a usable report with excel – typically with pivot tables. Another notable activity that I participated in was that I represented finance on the Goal Zero safety committee and enjoy working with challenging and complex problems. -
