Currently working on a research review of wireworm as pests of potatoes in the UK. Would be pleased to hear from others who have an interest in this subject but particularly farmers, agronomists anywhere in the UK who have unexpected damage or just a lot of damage. I am looking at the species involved as well as how to identify risk and risk factors. The current UK assumption that the problem is caused by just three species may be correct in most situations but certainly not all. I am also very sceptical that they "go into potatoes for moisture". I am working on improved bait traps, timings for these and also have been using adult trapping, pitfall traps + pheromones which are much easier to check than the Yatlor types. I can supply these , and advice if anyone wants to have a look. I work in both organic and conventional crops for potatoes but all other crops in conventional.
