• My previous position was European Quality Director for ThermoFisher Scientific’s Microbiology Division (MBD). I was responsible for all Quality Assurance, Quality Control and Quality Engineering activities for European MBD manufacturing sites located at Basingstoke, Perth, Dartford, East Grinstead, Wesel, Vantaa and Johannesburg.• Managing teams of quality assurance and regulatory affairs professionals providing support for the manufacture and release of IVD products across all sites (7 sites, ~75 Quality professionals).• Developing, monitoring, driving and presenting KPI metrics to divisional and corporate leadership.• Regulatory compliance and maintenance responsibility for FDA, CMDCAS, ISO 9001, ISO 13485, ISO 17025 and corporate requirements.• European QA budget responsibility.• Managing the Post market Surveillance and Vigilance systems for European manufacturing sites.• Developing, driving and monitoring quality plans, quality improvements, quality objectives and process harmonisation across the European QA teams.

My position was Scientific Director and Senior Microbiologist for PuriCore PLC (www.puricore.com), a company that provides sterilisation, disinfection and decontamination products to the medical, pharmaceutical and food retail markets. My principal role was to direct, manage and co-ordinate all R&D and science activities for the UK and the rest of the world except North America.• Manage the PuriCore R&D and microbiology departments consisting of 3 laboratories and 4 members of staff.• Represent the company and trade associations on CEN/BSI standards committees to help draft new European standards in the fields of disinfectant microbiological efficacy and medical devices.• Working with external laboratories and research collaborators on scientific projects. • Provide technical and project management support for relevant regulatory submissions. Provide regulatory expertise to ensure products meet the essential requirements of European directives e.g. MDD, BPD.• Identify, recommend and audit contract laboratories for routine and non routine testing of Puricore products to meet business objectives. Identify appropriate academic collaborations to support business objectives.• Responsible for laboratory quality management system, department budgets and target setting.

A company that provides research, analysis and consultancy for the European food, drink, pharmaceutical, consumer goods, healthcare and chemical industries. I was responsible for the efficient and profitable running of the UKAS/GLP accredited microbiology facilities.Managing and developing a team of 10 technicians and 2 laboratories (Food Microbiology and Healthcare / Pharmaceutical Microbiology).Ensuring the required quality systems were maintained (ISO 17025), including addressing any non - compliances raised as a consequence of client / accreditation audits.Ensuring the Microbiology Laboratory's financial targets were met and reporting to the board.Introducing new techniques and technologies to enhance RSSL's service portfolio.

Ethnic Cuisine Ltd was an organisation that produced chilled ready meals for Sainsbury's Supermarkets Ltd. I was recruited by Ethnic to design, equip and manage a microbiology laboratory, putting in place procedures and documentation to satisfy national accreditation standards. (CLAS). Once the laboratory was finished I was responsible for the day-to-day management of the facility, testing finished product, environmental samples and raw materials for a broad spectrum of micro-organisms. All results needed to satisfy Sainsbury's stringent microbiological specification requirements and I was in regular contact with them to discuss trends, initiatives and developments.I spent a large proportion of my time on the factory floor, auditing procedures, hygiene levels and GMP standards, utilising my findings to identify trends and drive continuous improvement.Responsible for the microbiology budget and producing expenditure data for the company board meetings.Carrying out audits on external suppliers and recommending procedural changes to meet Sainsbury's requirements.

My position within Ortho Clinical Diagnostics (www.orthoclinical.com) was Senior Laboratory Technician for the Microbiology Services Group. My principle responsibility was designing and performing validation projects for the equipment and procedures used within the group and producing validation reports to stringent standards (FDA) and tight deadlines. • Supervisor for the identification process that involved isolating and identifying bacteria and fungi to Genus/Species levels. • Managing the preservative efficacy testing programme. • Reporting on bioburden levels to customers.
