I started Level C with my partner Andy Starr to address a growing need for professional education in branding. We're rolling out a five-tier program to train and certify business professionals, starting with basic proficiency and leading to brand mastery—the level at which an executive is qualified to manage branding from the C-suite. The first three tiers are available now.

My role at Liquid is to help companies and their CEOs embrace change so they can become more dynamic, agile, and innovative. I do this through workshops, books, and speaking engagements. My view—perhaps my bias—is that brand thinking will replace spreadsheet thinking as the dominant management lens of the 21st century. My workshops are focused on giving management teams a head start in building a brand-centered culture.

I led a talented team of "brand coaches" who helped clients address challenges in brand strategy, innovation, and cultural transformation. Some of our favorites were Applied Materials, Electronic Arts, GE, Google, Herman Miller, and Hewlett-Packard.

Design firm in Palo Alto that specialized in branding and packaging for technology firms. We helped many of the era's leading companies develop their brands, including Adobe, Apple, Claris, HP, Kodak, Sun, and 3Com. From 1996 to 2001, we also published Critique, a premium quarterly on design thinking.

I founded Critique to explore the upper reaches of graphic design, with an emphasis on design thinking. The magazine came out quarterly at $18 per issue, an unheard-of price at the time. Yet these were not magazines as much as deluxe softcover books crafted for leaders and future leaders of the design and brand professions. Ultimately, Critique was unsustainable in the face of increasingly free online content.
