About Marv Chen

Convenient, highly secure, and cheap. Pick two of the three. Users hate security because it's inconvenient. To make security less inconvenient, sometimes we can throw money, a lot of money at the problem. And at the end of the day, security will still not be 100%. In fact, security is never 100%. Security is a matter of implementing preventative and detective controls to sufficiently slow down an attacker so that we can do something about it before something bad happens. Ultimately, security is a management issue. How much security do we want to mitigate the risks? And if the residual risks, assuming all the controls are working effectively, are acceptable to the business. It's up to security professionals to present all options to management in a way that is not techno-babble. Implementing security is not all that much different from buying insurance.Anyone who guarantees 100% security or says that convenience will not be negatively affected (assuming reasonable expenditures) is lying to you. Also, beware of anyone who sells you on buzzwords. Anyone including their grandmother can pass the CISSP today.

Listed skills include Information Security, Disaster Recovery, Information Technology, Security, and 29 others.
