Violin/Viola/Fiddle/5-6 String Electric ViolinSelf Employed 1995 - PresentMy greatest passion is improvisation. I often lead from a 6 string, fretted Mark Wook Viper. I play into a Fender amp with the drive up all the way or I use a Roland AC90 with distortion, flanger, reverb, and delay pedals. I also use a 10 band EQ M101 by Dunlop at the beginning of my pedal board when playing on an acoustic violin with an LRBaggs bridge pick-up system. Occasionally I fool around making loops on my compact loop pedal.I love improvising nearly any style from jazz to bluegrass to progressive rock. I'm a huge fan of Pink Floyd, Kansas, The Doors, and Peter Gabriel. Although I am classically trained, playing for 40 years, since age 4, I've always improvised on the violin. I remember at age 6, standing next to my father, an amateur pianist, as he played popular tunes from the 40's and 50's. I couldn't read music yet, so I'd just play along, picking out the melody. Eventually, I learned to improvise with my records of the Who, Kansas, Pink Floyd, the Police, and REM.

I've also performed Beethoven Sonatas No. 5, 6, 8, 9, and 10. In 2004 I also performed the Brahms Clarinet Quintet with other members of the Millenium Strings.

I studied viola with Gerald Fishbach, Michael Tree and Arnold Steinhardt during my masters degree program. I also trained in baroque performance on viola with members of the Smithsonian Chamber Players. People in the District of Columbia knew me as a switch hitter.
