Marwan Nafea, PhD, MEng, BEng, PGCHE, FHEA, SMIEEE, MIET, GradEng, GradIEM, GradTech, MIAENG, MICSES, Director of the 4D Printing SocietyDr. Marwan Nafea received his BEng (Hons) in Electronic Engineering from Sebha University, Libya, in 2010, followed by MEng and PhD degrees in Electrical Engineering from Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) in 2013 and 2018, respectively. From 2017 to 2018, he worked as a Researcher and Software Developer at UTM’s Faculty of Biosciences and Medical Engineering and later at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering. Currently, he is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Faculty of Science and Engineering, University of Nottingham Malaysia (UNM). In addition to his teaching role, he has held administrative positions related to accreditation, quality assurance, and infrastructure. Recognized by the Higher Education Academy (HEA) in the UK, he was awarded Associate Fellow (AFHEA) status in 2020 and advanced to Fellow (FHEA) in 2021. In November 2024, he was awarded the Postgraduate Certificate in Higher Education (PGCHE). He has secured several national and international research grants focused on 4D printing and MEMS. Dr. Marwan Nafea has served as director of the 4D Printing Society since 2021 and has led the 4D Printing Group at UNM since 2022. His innovative contributions include a patent for a wirelessly powered microfluidic device and multiple copyrighted concepts. His papers were featured in IRBM’s Trends for 2021, and JMM’s Highlights of 2021. He received several research and teaching awards, as well as several medals in academic competitions. Dr. Marwan Nafea also received the Best Paper and Best Presentation Awards at several international conferences. Additionally, he contributes to academia as an editorial board member for various journals, an editor of a book on sensors, and a reviewer for international grants, over 80 journals, and many conferences. His research interests include 4D printing, MEMS, microactuators, wireless microfluidic devices, modeling and control, optimization, and biosignals.
