My lifeWORK is to enrich people’s understanding of human communication—enabling them to draw more fully on our uniquely human capabilities for engaging in multilevel awareness, building more accurate pictures of reality informed by diverse and integrated perspectives, and co-creating inspired solutions for shared problems. Thirty-plus years of research, program development, and leadership consulting and have yielded a body of work that I’ve come to call “Generative Communication.” A revolutionary way of thinking about human communication, Generative Communication is an interactive process of co-creative sensemaking and problem-solving aimed toward mutually-beneficial outcomes, e.g., shared understanding of complex problems, appreciation of opposing points of view, or workable solutions to demanding challenges. My passion—and purpose—is to share what I have learned so far, so we all can begin practicing a new kind of consciously constructive Communication. I believe our collective well-being and long-term survival depend on it. Five portals give us entry into a Generative Communication mindset that will guide us in the practice of Generative Communication in our everyday interactions. Check them out here! https://www.maryaferdig.com/I envision a world of endless possibilities co-created by people with different, sometimes contentious, points of view who are willing to commit to honest, Generative Communication in search of shared understanding and workable solutions. There is so much yet to learn. I would love to hear your perspective, exchange ideas, and co-create a new shared reality. Generative Communication can be practiced at home, alone, with friends, classrooms, organizations, public forums, and literally any interaction. Let’s get started!
