I desire to do freelance writing/consulting in the field of disability advocacy and/or nonprofit where I can work towards meaningful outcomes for others. I want to be a part of the process in working to uphold the rights of those who are disabled, alone, disenfranchised, and to represent those in our society/world who have been both under-served and under-represented. I wish to be a part of the solution in the continuing struggle to seek and gain long-term changes of a positive nature. I am experienced in advocating for family members and for others who are disabled and/or challenged. I have been able to be of service to others in an unofficial, nonpaying, consultant capacity for over 35 years. I am passionate and determined to always do and act upon what is right and fair. I am creative and an "idea person". I always look forward to meeting and making contact with new people. I feel that I am strong in my convictions, yet diplomatic and professional. I am organized and tenacious when it comes to researching relevant subjects and topics. Projects that I have been involved in: One of the 5 Founders of an independent parent support group, growing to 200+ families, encompassing 5 counties in Southeastern Michigan. In the past, I have partnered with two neighboring counties to establish a regional site of the Michigan Alliance For Families. I have brought training of the Michigan Partners for Freedom - Self-Determination to Lenawee County (among other presentations of value to families of children with disabilities). I served as Secretary and as the Regional Interagency Consumer Council (RICC) Public Policy Coordinator for Lenawee County. I have also served on the Lenawee Intermediate School District's Parent Advisory Committee.

I was responsible in assisting other staff in the area of customer service/complaints. I recorded and maintained/balanced, as well as transferred funds accordingly for accounts payable and receivable (water/sewer operating and maintenance), and prepared monthly reports to be submitted for approval by City Commissioners. I typed reports and letters as requested by the Director or Utilities Department. I maintained the Utilities Department files. I billed companies and individuals for bulk water. I prepared the Utilities Department payroll for submission to the Finance Department, which included oversight related to sick, personal, vacation time and worker's compensation. I left this position to take care of and advocate full-time for my younger child who was born prematurely and as a result, is severely, multiply-disabled. His diagnosis being specifically spastic quadriplegic cerebral palsy, and so in earnest and with much love, I entered into the world of Disability Advocacy.

I was responsible for efficient operation and accurate recordkeeping at Herrick Manor. I kept the daily census; prepared contracts and forms for admissions; evaluated accuracy of records for discharge; recorded and prepared quarterly statements for residents' trust funds; prepared insurance billings, including private pay, Medicaid, commercial insurances. I recorded accounts receivable. I maintained residents' medical charts. I scheduled tests. I notified physicians of 60-day visitation schedule. I maintained a personnel log and contacted personnel for staffing needs. I typed policies, forms and correspondence and performed other tasks as needed.

Temporary Position. I scheduled appointments for JTPA applicants and guided applicants through the intake process. I compiled eligibility of applicants according to established guidelines. I led and assisted with group intakes. I directed approved applicants to either an Account Specialist (OJT) or to a Counselor for classroom training. As a Records Manager, I kept accurate records of all enrollments, status changes and terminations of Michigan Youth Corps and Summer Youth in Lenawee County. I developed and updated on-board lists and reports monthly.
