As Chair it is my goal to encourage and examine ways in which the important work of Medical Simulation can assist medical professionals in gaining competency across health care "cultural bumps".Such Cultural "bumps" occur frequently when a health care professional is unable to grasp the identity, cultural values, or mores of a particular patient. This includes, but is not limited to, cross cultural issues, race, identity, and transgendered issues. As Chair, I am working toward continued education for healthcare professionals in order that our larger healthcare provider community is able to first recognize and then encompass and enact in communication: an awareness of differences and commonalities. Through awareness, practitioners may then acquire the tools that will enable this important communication.Current Projects: How to teach medical students Transgender Health Issues; How to incorporate accurate anatomy/ physiognomy in mannequin based simulated learning ; and The Neuroscience of Bias and how we might address making actual plasticity changes to our brains, through awareness of our biases.

Health Care worker educator. Cultural Competencies. Discuss best practices and re-enforce the "Four Habits of Patient Focused Care" to medical students, nurse practitioners, pharmacy students, physician assistants and others.

To faithfully represent a standard script in order to give the medical professional the closely standardized experience of being with a real patient, in a real clinical situation. Observe and comment on group training sessions. Memorize scripts.
