Mary is a Managing Partner at Equal Rights Consulting (ERC), a New York and Washington, DC based consulting firm providing support to non-profits, foundations and corporations on a variety of subject matters ranging from human rights and government relations, to non-profit management and disability rights. Mary co-founded the FDR Memorial Legacy Committee (FDR Committee) and has served as Executive Director since 2019. She manages all aspects of the organization including financial, fundraising, programmatic, communications and personnel. Mary has secured over $1 million in funding from foundation, individual, and government sources. She has been the Project Director for major initiatives including the commemorative events marking the 25th anniversary of the FDR Memorial in 2022, and a 2023 national teacher training workshop funded by the National Endowment for the Humanities.In prior years, Mary was a member of the senior leadership team at the National Organization on Disability. She was a key staff member on the campaign to add a statue of FDR in a wheelchair to the FDR Memorial in Washington, DC. She also served as Director of the World Committee on Disability executing all aspects of the FDR International Disability Award with presentations to heads of state at the United Nations for ten years. From 2007–2011 Mary was a member of the US-Vietnam Dialogue Group on Agent Orange/Dioxin convened by the Ford Foundation and later the Aspen Institute. She is co-contributor to the 2009 paper funded by the Ford Foundation titled, US Vietnam Veterans and Agent Orange: Understanding the Impact 40 Years Later. In 2009, Mary testified before the U.S. House of Representatives Committee on Foreign Affairs Subcommittee on Asia, the Pacific, and the Global Environment at the hearing “Agent Orange: What efforts are being made to address the continuing impact of dioxin in Vietnam.” Mid-career, Mary shifted gears and secured a M.A. in Education and a teaching license and served as a classroom teacher of students with various disabilities in Washington, DC schools from 2013-2018. She continues to hold teacher licensure in Washington, DC. At the start of her career, Mary was a staff member for her hometown member of Congress, Representative Norman F. Lent of New York. Mary holds a M.A. in Education from George Washington University School of Education and Human Development, a M.A. in International Relations from the University of Denver Korbel School of International Service, and a B.A. from the American University School of International Service.
