Chemist
I worked for OSHA Salt Lake Technical Center from December 1977 to July 2010. I started analyzing compliance samples for organic chemicals using gas chromatography, liquid chromatography, and ion chromatography and all of the various detectors available at OSHA SLTC. I was team leader of Chromatography team March 1995-November 1997. I was a member of the Methods Development Team since March 1999-July 2010. My duties involved the development of sampling and analytical methods for chemicals, including 9 validated sampling and analytical methods, 101 partially validated methods, and many studies. I was also a member of OSHA’s Forensics team, and as a member of this team I assisted OSHA field personnel in formulating sampling strategies, and help them determine the events that may have lead up to major accidents and explosions. For 12 years I taught the Industrial Hygiene Chemistry GC lab, for the OSHA Industrial Hygiene Chemistry Course OTI #328.I am a co-author of the book Introduction to IH Analytical Chemistry available at aiha.org.
