Emergency Medicine through the eyes of an EMT is what brought me into health care. Along my journey I have become an RN and now a Nurse Practitioner. Through the levels of provider I have not forgotten where I have come from. I have found that because of my experiences, I can look at healthcare through different lenses. On the Ambulance I am not paid, and the patient's do not pay us. This is where I see healthcare in its purist form, helping others for nothing. I also see as an EMT, that through good primary prevention and care, many of our patients may not have needed an ambulance. As a Nurse Practitioner in the outpatient setting, I can assist from the non acute side of healthcare. There I spend my time teaching prevention, which keeps patients off of the ambulance, and out of the hospital. My career goals include, becoming as competent and confident of a provider as possible, while obtaining a wide range of knowledge and skill. I will continue to volunteer in my fire department as an EMT, and eventually become an EMS officer. I would also love to at some point experience the inpatient setting as an NP & work for Mercy Flight. I hope to leave a positive impact on the world, through the interactions with, and treatment of all the patients I will see in my lifetime.
