As a digital linguist for Sommer Consulting, I study the language, behaviors, motivations, and attitudes of both face-to-face and online audiences to successfully create and run the company’s new line of digital products, as well as Sommer Consulting's own online presence and branding.Compiling, evaluating, and prioritizing this data, I manage digital strategy development that drives future growth for the boutique consulting firm, specializing in custom primary qualitative and market research. I use digital content and strategies to facilitate and empower the company’s overarching internal mission of being: Focused on listening to our clients. Listening to our respondents. Listening to each other.Today, Sommer Consulting continues its four-decade trend of providing our clients with unsurpassed insight, and delivering to them the means to move minds.

Working on a digital team stateside, I was part of a dynamic product for an international company that was a new source of health information— aggregating patient experiences across the Internet and organizing them into usable insights for patients, healthcare professionals, pharmaceutical companies and other healthcare organizations. As a Linguist Consultant, I directly contributed to Treato’s application of "big data" technology & product design to collect enormous amounts of data from healthcare forums and social media sites. With advanced natural language processing techniques and sophisticated medical ontologies, my team analyzed this information and provided a window into patients' thoughts and attitudes about conditions and treatments. Key Contributions: ­Developed linguistically sound methodologies for analyzing social media data specific to client needs. Utilized top social media data analytics platforms to analyze keywords, hashtags, or topics for clients in the pharmaceutical industry—both patient and HCP—and compiled actionable findings into reports.

Conceptualized, developed, and built a successful business from the ground up. Created the business plan and company structure, marketing strategies, customer service processes, business operations, and performance objectives. Developed and structured profitability forecasts. Professionally taught all aspects of language: syntax, vocabulary, pronunciation, and discourse tailored according to each client’s specific needs. Key Contributions: • Primary client was the Department of Defense: Provided English as a Second Language (ESL) to members of NATO’s Allied Command personnel. Personnel were responsible for the planning and execution of all NATO military operations. ­• Worked with culturally diverse clientele; tailored program to client’s specific needs; expertly taught all aspects of language: syntax, vocabulary, pronunciation, and discourse.

Taught ESL 43: Advanced Academic Listening and Speaking for the largest provider of higher education and workforce services in Hampton Roads, enrolling nearly 33,000 students.Key Contributions: Provided engaging and participative instruction and practice to facilitate students in improving listening and speaking skills.­Professionally assessed students’ oral skills; provided guidance for increased practice with pronunciation, rhythm, stress, and intonation. ­Emphasized their speaking and oral development of fluency through exercises, practices, small and large group activities, and formal and informal presentations.
