Mary Helda Akongo is a passionate advocate for STEM education and empowerment for girls in Africa. She leads the Fundi Girls program at Fundi Bots, an organization that accelerates science learning in Africa by providing practical learning tools. She designs and implements the program that inspires and empowers thousands of girls across Uganda, Kenya and soon, other African countries to pursue STEM education and careers. She holds a Bachelor of Information Technology from Makerere University and has a strong background in technology, innovation and strategic thinking. She has adopted human-centred design as a practice to solve complex challenges faced by organizations, businesses, and communities. She also serves as a member of the Board of Trustees of United Social Ventures, an organization that builds and supports startups to lead game-changing impact. She was a Coordinating Ambassador for One Young World leading their community-building efforts in 14 East African countries. She has received multiple awards and recognition for her exceptional work and impact, such as the Facebook Social Entrepreneurship Award, the Internet Society 25 under 25 Award, and World Bank #Blog4Dev.
