I am an attorney, teacher, counselor and mediator. I began my legal practice as a litigator, and then transitioned into clinical law teaching. My interest in litigation waned as I found the negotiation process far more satisfying than courtroom battles. In the early 1990s I began teaching a Consumer Counseling Clinical course, which emphasizes problem solving -- assisting clients in debt to find some resolution to their financial stress. In 2000 I spent 3 weeks in Brattleboro Vt. at the School for International Training in a conflict transformation course: Conflict Transformation Across Cultures. Thereafter I was hooked on learning more about dispute resolution, especially through mediation and other similar approaches. I have been a volunteer mediator and mentor with Safe Horizon, now the New York Peace Institute since early 2001. I taught and directed the Mediation Clinic at Brooklyn Law School from 2007 to 2010. I will be teaching the Mediation Clinic at New York Law School again in the Fall 2013 term I have continued to direct the Consumer Counseling program, and have acquired some training and expertise in Foreclosure Intervention.Specialties: My work will continue to be focused on helping individuals and families facing transition or crisis,through a combination of counseling, mediation and bankruptcy or foreclosure advocacy. I am especially energized by family, youth and community based mediation. I have been trained in, and conducted, parent/teen, custody/visitation, special education, truancy, restorative justice, transformative and elder mediation.
