Clerical Assistant/Legal Department Assistant
Alta Bates Summit Medical Center, Department Of Psychiatry
Berkeley, Ca
• From job beginning in an undermanaged department, taught myself my own job with minimal sources of job content information. Crafted all elements of job description. Results: Within 90 days of hire, management requested my leadership to train & supervise my counterparts in various other units. Our group voluntarily grew into an ongoing source of mutual support, problem solving and technical success. Morale soared.• Managers chose half of us, including my trainees, as EPIC SuperUsers, to assist Certified Trainers. Anticipated the need for ongoing support & lobbied the Certified Trainers to cross-train SuperUsers in all disciplines’ work flows. Results: New & ongoing users called on me as a support service, saving hours of doctors’ & staff members’ time.• After formal training, & keeping in mind people’s various learning styles, designed a reference manual for each unit’s specific needs, including daily work flows and software updates. Results: Prevented much stress & frustration staff members could experience with an unfamiliar & complicated system.• Managed changes, printing, and inventory of Point Cards, forms designed to encourage & track basic routines for adolescent patients, i.e., ADLs, emotional self-care & personal development goals. Point totals determined privileges earned & discharge planning. Created tracking binder for easy access for unit staff. Results: Saved countless information “hunting” hours.• Was frequently called upon by professional staff to serve as a sounding board to share my observations & suggestions about patients. Results: Medical charting became more thorough; nurses were able to administer less calming medication.• Collaborated with OT to revise patient tracking materials to cut costs and make information more relevant to patients with simple improvements such as forms for tracking materials.• Served as the go-to, ad hoc HR representative in solving interpersonal issues among staff members. Results: More harmonious morale.
