Growing up in the U.S. as an immigrant, I was always on the receiving end when it comes to asking for help. As an eight-year-old, not knowing any English at the time proved to be an arduous struggle when I needed to become more dependable for my family. Once I graduated college, I thought about career options that allowed me to give back all the support I received in the past. That was when opportunity rose, and I joined Cambridge Network with the mission of helping international high school students to adjust to living in the U.S. while striving for a high school diploma. Throughout the years, I’ve provided support to hundreds of students, students’ parents, host families, and school officials, and I felt an increment of achievement. Although I didn't get to see whether these students become successful in their journey, just as my mentors didn’t see my story unfold, I hope like the butterfly effect, some of them would pass on the support they received. After obtaining the PMP certification and having close to four years of project management experience in the telecommunications and real-estate industry, I switched gears to the Ed. Tech. field at Newsela as a Project Manager; since I started my career in the education field, my motivation and self-satisfaction come from being able to learn new skills with the mission of providing content that help engage students' interests regardless of their reading levels and learning styles. I transitioned my focus on higher education at Northeastern University to work on projects that bring impactful and innovative experiences to students through Northeastern University's programs and initiatives. Overall, I'm motivated by challenging myself in different fields, and working with different people of various backgrounds because the human aspect of the job captures a snippet of their daily-life that I may not have or will ever experience. It's also a reminder of how regardless of where I am and what I do, it's pertinent to keep a constant awareness of ourselves of how our actions affect those around us even to the smallest degree. I look forward to continuing my journey as a project manager because it combines my passion for teamwork, problem-solving, and continuous learning to drive positive outcomes.
