Dogwood Health Trust Leverage Fund (Ongoing since July 2020)Assist nonprofits in Western North Carolina to apply for grants from federal, state, and national funders through the Leverage Fund. To date, secured over $4.6 million dollars.National Committee for Responsive Philanthropy (Completed in February 2020): Assist with research, data collection, and analysis to support successful implementation of their organization’s learning and evaluation plan through baseline research in Washington, DC. West Marion Community Forum, People on the Move for Old Fort, and the Community Engagement Project (Ongoing since 2017): Advise a collaboration of public, private, and nonprofit sector partners on strategies to launch community forums and engage diverse leaders to address health disparities in McDowell County, NC. Watauga Compassionate Community Initiative (Ongoing since September 2019): Provided strategic planning support to a cross-sector collaborative of public health, education, and nonprofit leaders focused on addressing adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) in Watauga County, NC.Yancey County Foodshed Project (Completed January 2017): A project to develop strategies to increase farm acreage, grow farmer income, and strengthen the local food economy in Yancey County, NC. This project is in partnership with Emergent Opportunities, Inc.Rural Support Partners (Completed December 2016): Consultant for Rural Support Partners to the Kate B. Reynolds Charitable Trust's Healthy Places Initiative to coordinate and align health improvement strategies related to the food system, built environment, and health care and disease prevention in western North Carolina.Appalachia Funders Network (Completed December 2016): Consultant for the Appalachia Funders Network’s Philanthropic Engagement Initiative. A partnership with the Appalachian Regional Commission and Mary Reynolds Babcock Foundation to increase philanthropic investments into the region’s economic transition.

Supported the growth and daily operations of a thriving social enterprise that works with leaders, organizations, and networks to strengthen rural communities across Central Appalachia and the Southeast. Responsibilities included hiring, training, management, and evaluation of staff, Rural Fellows, and interns; client recruitment and relationship management; creation of organizational policies and procedures; and presentations on behalf of RSP at national and international conferences.Directed regional networks of nonprofits and funders who collaborate to develop shared strategies to address complex social and economic challenges. Clients included: Appalachia Funders Network, Central Appalachian Network, and the Deep South Community Agricultural Network. Provided organizational development assistance to rural organizations, including facilitation of strategic planning sessions, development of grant proposals, client budgeting and fundraising, and creation of effective measurement and evaluation systems. Clients included: Highlander Research and Education Center’s Appalachian Transition Fellowship Program, Rural Resources, and Carolina Textile District. Contributed to field-building research on rural community organizing, place-based strategies to improve health, and sustainable economic development. Partners included: Appalachian Regional Commission, Appalachia Funders Network, Ford Foundation, Central Appalachian Network, Aspen Institute Community Strategies Group, Center for Rural Entrepreneurship, Wake Forest University, Duke University, National Implementation Research Network, NC Rural Forward, and Kate B. Reynolds Charitable Trust.

Partnered with the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) to organize the international conference, “Property Rights in Transition: Challenges in Post-Conflict Kosovo.”Collaborated with the United Nations’ Independent Expert in the Field of Cultural Rights to advocate for the economic, political, social, and cultural rights of women and girls in Eastern Africa and the Middle East.Authored petitions to the Council of Europe, the United Nations Special Rapporteur on Adequate Housing and the United Nations Committee on the Elimination of Racial Discrimination, in an effort to challenge the forced eviction of a Roma Gypsy and Traveller community at Dale Farm, United Kingdom.Directed the “No Human Way to Kill” campaign around the World Day Against the Death Penalty. This campaign connected 26 universities and 18 prominent anti-death penalty organizations from across the USA, Canada, and United Kingdom for a live streamed panel discussion in New York City.Researched and interviewed community leaders on mental illness and persecution in Zimbabwe to support asylum cases for the Country of Origin Research Centre in the United Kingdom.
