As part of my job with Americorps Mentoring for Success, I also run a tutoring program at LIED Boys & Girls Club after-school. We use the Student Tutoring Achievement for Reading (STAR) program to tutor the elementary club members in reading, fluency, vocabulary and more. I organize the program, train hired teens, watch over hired teens as they tutor one-on-one with their child for 30 minutes, and keep track of data for future reference.

I have the responsibility to mentor elementary school children at Parkview Elementary that are identified by school leadership as needing support to succeed in their education. For children at risk for failing due to attendance, I run a program where they check in and out with me in the morning before school and in the afternoon after school. When they check in on time they get points to spend on fun prizes. This helps kids want to come to school on time more often. I also have to be a good role model for them, support their needs, and be a positive person in their lives when at school to help with their motivation.

In the summer of 2016 I got a job with the Holladay Lions Fitness and Recreation Center for being part of a group of summer camp counselors. We would have an average of 35 kids for the morning and afternoon sessions each day with 4-5 counselors to look over them and coordinate activities. We would do activities such as playing outdoor games, making arts and crafts, playing at the park behind the recreation center, and going swimming for an hour at the centers public pool. I worked 32-36 hours a week.
