Managed the P&L and led all aspects of this business and served as the as Chief Science Officer. Oversaw the buying and processing of cocoa beans in Indonesia and the creation and execution of the marketing program for supplements and ingredients. Developed analytical methods for regulatory, food safety risk assessment and claim substantiation providing information also used by other Mars businesses.

A multi-billion family-owned branded wine, beverage and spirits company that is the largest winery in the world, the largest exporter of California wines offering over 90 brands in 90 countries. Reported to CEO and owner. Created and led the Global Technology and Quality function which included wine technology and process innovation, viticulture, research and development, consumer research (both product and market) and all quality, food safety risk assessment and regulatory/compliance aspects of the business, including environmental. Created and launched an innovative consumer sensory mapping process for wines. This was unique for Gallo and allowed the company to construct ideal blends at various price points. Initiated the National Grape and Wine Initiative (NGWI), pulling together all the major wine grape, table grape and raisin producers from all fifty states to pool R&D funds. This attracted a larger pool of dollars from available government research funding. Created a “stage/gate” product development process that stimulated a wave of beverage product innovation.
