About Mary Anne Funk

Teaching is my heart work, and creating a student-centric learning environment is very important to me.From the time I was in 5th grade, I knew I wanted to be a teacher. At that time, I wanted to be a physical education teacher. It was my pathway up until I was a senior in high school when I aged out of foster care and had to make different choices for myself. I didn’t know then how many different paths my life would take me before coming full circle and ending up doing what I was most passionate about: teaching; albeit teaching something completely different. My goals as an instructor are to: 1. Create content that puts accessibility at the forefront of the design.2. Provide a student-centric learning environment in order to provide a space where student interests and goals are brought into our lesson plan.3. Provide a space for students to discover what types of projects they are most passionate about.4. Teach the importance of storytelling in our everyday lives.5. Teach the importance of accessibility in media.6. Continue to grow and improve my work as a teacher based on your feedback and to never become complacent in the material and lessons I create and share. My Academic Research:Universal design and accessibility in multimedia web stories and social virtual worlds. I seek to supplement and expand on research focused on developing web accessibility tools and being a part of pioneering social VR content accessibility guidelines.
