Maryann Phipps has over 40 years’ experience evaluating, designing and renovating buildings for earthquake resistance. Maryann has designed infrastructure improvements for thousands of clients across Northern California, and most projects have been designed with the objective of keeping facilities operational after earthquakes. This experience has helped make Maryann a recognized expert in the seismic protection of nonstructural components. She was the lead technical consultant for FEMA P-74 Reducing the Risks of Nonstructural Earthquake Damage, which received a 2012 Award of Excellence from the Structural Engineers Association of California. Maryann led a NIST-sponsored project entitled Seismic Analysis and Design of Nonstructural Components and Systems, which advanced the state of practice in this field.
