I am a skilled communication professional who thrives providing one-on-one support to diverse students. When meeting with students, I listen with compassion and demonstrate that I value identity, individuality, and confidentiality. I use motivational interview techniques (open-ended questions) to encourage students to share their experiences and barriers to success in previous educational settings. I explain available supports to help students determine what supports might remove barriers to their success in the classroom. I listen for and encourage self-advocacy, meeting students where they are and scaffolding support as necessary. I congratulate students who demonstrate self-advocacy. I listen for and acknowledge student strengths.I also provide clarification and support to faculty in implementing student accommodations. In my time at ACC, I was recommended for and completed Leadership Training. This included presenting a project to Cabinet on Motivational Interviewing and how it benefits all employees in student interactions. I have represented Disability Access Services formally by presenting to classes and ACC Campuses. I have also represented DAS informally by tabling at campus events. I am a confident presenter who can handle audience feedback. I’m comfortable presenting to large and small groups. I’m a proud Arizona State University alumna with a BA in Journalism from ASU's cutting-edge journalism school. I love that ASU recruits and supports diverse students, including first-generation college students and students who have aged out of foster care.
