Hello, my name is Mary Catharine Rechtien, and I am a Junior Political Science major at the University of Arkansas expected to graduate in May of 2025. My passion for Law started at a young age but as I grew older and experienced more, the purpose behind my passion shifted dramatically. Not only am I thirsty for knowledge and the pursuit of education, but my driving force is to be a light in my community and create impactful and lasting change in the judicial system.I am a Kansas City native and grew up in the Briarcliff area just North of downtown! I attended North Kansas City High School where I was blessed with a multitude of unique opportunities such as creating a self-sustaining fundraiser for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, obtaining a 6A State Championship ring in basketball, leading my school as the Student Council President, interning with the General Legal Council for NKC Schools, and so much more. My transition to the University of Arkansas was no different as I have been involved in many different ways on campus. My passion for St. Jude led me to join the Delta Delta Delta Sorority where I was a member of the philanthropy committee and eventually transitioned into a leadership role as the Philanthropy Education Chair. While serving as the Philanthropy Education Chair, I was primary responsible to oversee and develop programs and initiatives related to philanthropy education, which includes teaching, promoting, and advancing the principles and practices of giving and social impact. This role is multifaceted, combining elements of education, research, advocacy, and practical guidance. Other forms of involvement includes being a member of the Pre-Law Society, playing intramural basketball and soccer, being a part-time server at The Buttered Biscuit, and documenting over 50 hours of community service on GivePulse - all while maintaining a 3.7 GPA.
