ProPath is the largest physician-owned pathology group in the country and has been named a Great Place to Work again in 2020. In the flow cytometry section, we provide leukemia/lymphoma testing as well as PNH evaluations for our clients.

Supervisor for the Flow Cytometry and Referral testing sections. Responsible for day-to-day operation of the flow cytometry section utilizing 3 FACSCanto II cytometers to perform 8 color leukemia/lymphoma and PNH evaluations. Responsibilities include staff schedules, training, performance evaluations and professional development; inventory control; equipment maintenance, quality control and assurance, review and update technical procedures, and development of new testing.The Referral Testing section is responsible for sending samples to the appropriate lab for any testing not performed in-house. Responsibilities include supervision of staff as noted above; ensuring prompt and accurate resulting; facilitating coordination between our clients and the referral lab for any specialized testing with very specific sample requirements; and assisting our Client Services department with questions about turn-around-times, sample requirements, appropriate test codes, and any other questions.

In the words of Monty Python: and now for something completely different! MyLabDFW is a small but growing new reference lab in Southlake TX. I am learning a lot about automated chemistry and immunoassay testing. The lab is busy but fun and the team is great.As a second shift coordinator, I worked as a lab generalist focusing on workflow and optimization in a small but growing new reference laboratory. Perform routine lab testing on Sysmex SN, Beckman Coulter DXC880i integrated instruments, Advia Centaur XP; serve as resource for hematology related questions; participate in quality control and quality assurance program; monitor sendout testing to ensure prompt and accurate resulting; as well as any other tasks that need attention which can be anything from taking out the trash to helping coordinate work schedules to lab supplies inventory to helping clients with any questions.

Cook Children's Medical Center, Hematology/Oncology LaboratoryI was the technical specialist for flow cytometry testing, having been brought on board to start up that lab, performing leukemia/lymphoma immunophenotyping as well as CD34 stem cell counts, and immunodeficiency workups. The flow cytometry lab was subsequently merged with the Hematology/Oncology lab. As part of a 3 person, self-directed team in the Hematology/Oncology Laboratory, I performed CBCs including morphologic review of each sample and manual differentials when indicated; assisted on bone marrow aspiration procedures including coordinating with clinic to collect appropriate samples for all testing requested, processing the sample for pathology, performed manual differential, flow cytometry when indicated, and processing and shipping sample for additional referral and research testing. Other duties included training new staff and students, developing, writing and reviewing procedures, overview of quality control and assurance, performance improvement, instrument maintenance and troubleshooting, and served as section liaison for information systems as well as the safety committee.

After moving back to the Dallas area, I decided to spend some time sharpening my hematology morphology skills. On the third shift, I performed routine hematology including CBC and manual differentials as indicated, urinalysis, coagulation testing, and body fluid analysis with morphologic review.

I was responsible for the day-to-day operation of the flow cytometry section including staff schedules, training, performance evaluations and professional development; equipment maintenance, inventory control, quality control and assurance, and development of new testing. Our team of 8 technologists performed immunophenotyping for leukemia and lymphoma on a wide variety of samples, as well as CD34 stem cell counts and immunodeficiency testing.

I have had the great fortune to work in some of the best labs in the country. Each position was an outstanding opportunity to learn a great deal, increase my skills, and work with a terrific group of talented people. I would be delighted to share my early work history upon request.
