Mary Grace Wilkinson Email and Phone Number
At 15 years old I was asked to leave the stage at a Salt-N-Peppa concert. The following year, I founded my first non-profit. These two events are the pillars which hold ground me to earth. The two passions driving my every move are the arts, and change-making. Something that helped inspire my passions, was plantar fasciitis. Plantar fasciitis sounds like a fungal infection that wraps itself around the big toe as a merry-go-round of mucus. It isn’t that bad, though– and I have the fortune of knowing this from firsthand experience. From ages 15-17 I was to ride my bike to my grandma's apartment weekly, and soak her plantar fasciitis riddled feet. Her feet were ones that paced the Ohio State Penitentiary's floors, working alongside women serving life sentences after killing their domestic abusers. Knelt beneath her feet, she instilled within me similar dreams of change making.I needed to first learn to recognize someone believing in me in order to find this vessel again when my grandma passed on. In this respect, I like to think of every opportunity I am given as something similar to the foot of a varicose veined senior citizen– a vessel to nurture my passions.I have taken my passions with me everywhere I go. Mostly recently, that would be the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. At Chapel Hill, I am pursuing a degree in Communications (Performance Studies track) with minors in Journalism and Entrepreneurship. At UNC, I spend my time acting in and directing productions that engage audiences-- most recently Lord of the Flies and 1984. Through the arts, I hope to inject audience members with a deep electricity, waking them up to the possibilities around them.
