Program manager for the Policy Administrator in Canada and the Certification Authorities deployed in the US, Canada and Brazil identifying new product requirements and working with development to get those implemented. A key role is providing support for the team onboarding customers and working with the operations team to ensure system operational requirements are satisfied, in particular when new requirements are introduced in the standards. Worked as a consultant with Neustar for 2 years, contributing to the IPNNI SHAKEN protocol specifications and working with product development on implementation requirements to development the solutions for both the Canadian Policy Administrator and Certification Authority. Author of the Certification Practice Statement (CPS) for Neustar's CAs.

Author of, and contributor to, IETF specifications across a broad range of Applications, Realtime, Security and Transport areas, mostly recently specifications related to the Automated Certificate Management (ACME) protocol for acquiring X.509 certificates used for authentication and verification of caller identity to mitigate illegal and unwanted robocalls and spam. Published RFCs include core SIP protocol extensions, NAT/FW traversal mechanisms, conferencing, geographic location delivery, telepresence and extensions for authenticated identity.

The DISPATCH WG handles all new proposed work items for the Applications and Real Time area. The work items can be dispatched as new WGs, as individual AD sponsored documents, a full BoF or to an existing WG. This model accelerates the development of new work and avoids the need for the contributor to do the searching for the right WG and provides the community more visibility into new work in the area.

The IAB has a number of roles, including taking a broader view of the Internet architecture as a whole. Serves as the IAB liaison to 3GPP. Lead of the IAB Emergency Services Program. Member of the IAB Privacy and Security Program and the IP Stack Evolution Program.

CLUE = ControLling mUltiple streams for tElepresence. As a DISPATCH WG co-chair, I was instrumental in the chartering of the CLUE WG. Currently serve as a co-chair of the WG and as editor for the WG requirements document. Organizes regular meetings, sets milestones, tracks issues and ensures work items are progressing.

Served as the Executive Director for the IAB from 2012-2014, maintaining their websites, as well as managing and leading various activities, such as workshops and board appointments.

The Nomcom appoints the members of the Internet Architecture board (IAB) and Internet Engineering Steering Group (IESG). The Nomcom chair follows the process as defined in RFC 3777 and leads a team of 10 community volunteers in evaluating nominees and appointing individuals based on input from the IETF community and a discernment as to whether a nominee is qualified. As a past Nomcom chair, served as an Advisor for the 2010-2011 Nomcom.

The SIPPING WG in IETF was responsible for developing specifications related to the SIP protocol that were not part of the core specifications for SIP protocol header fields. This involved a large number of documents across a broad range of topics such as overload control, SIP event packages, call flow examples, services and profiles for device configuration. As WG chair, I shepherded dozens of documents through the IETF process, ensuring each received adequate technical review at a time when the development of the SIP protocol was at its peak.

A member of the Board of Directors and a key contributor to the IP Network-Network Interface (IPNNI) Task Group. Member of the annual SIP Network Operator’s Conference (SIPNOC) program committee and a speaker at each of the SIPNOC events, providing the SIP operator community updates on standards activities and gathering their input as to gaps in the standards impacting deployed products. Past co-chair of the User Agent Configuration Task Group.

Independent Consultant applying broad range of experience in the Internet and traditional realtime communications technologies and product development, in particular focusing on engagement in various Standards Development organizations (SDOs) and technology forums including IETF, ATIS and 3GPP. This engagement establishes industry presence and adds value to strategic product planning by educating and collaborating with product development and product planning organizations on emerging standards and technologies. Clients have included technology start-ups, Internet telephony service providers, cloud based solution providers and governmental agencies. Current focus is on product development and deployment of STIR/SHAKEN solutions for service providers and enterprises for the mitigation of illegal robocalls and spam based on ATIS and IETF specifications. In addition, the role has involved expert analysis of patents. My expertise has allowed clients to negotiate agreements to their benefit, avoiding expensive legal proceedings.

iconectiv has been appointed to serve in the role of the Secure Telephone Identity Policy Administrator in the Signature-based Handling of Asserted information using toKENs (SHAKEN) ecosystem. SHAKEN was developed by a joint ATIS/SIP Forum task group as a foundational standard for the mitigation of illegal robocalls and spam in the VoIP telephone network. I serve as director of the Policy Management Authority, which is a board comprised of industry stakeholders that define the policies for the Certification Authorities (CAs) that issue STI certificates. As the director, I lead and manage the activities of the board and ensure that the Certificate Policy (CP) satisfies the requirements for the SHAKEN ecosystem and oversee the processes to review the CA's CPS and for the on boarding of the CAs.

Subject matter expert on the STIR/SHAKEN solution for mitigating illegal Robocalls and SPAM in the telephone network, including the Policy, Public Key Infrastructure (PKI) and call processing. Representing iconectiv in the joint ATIS/SIP Forum NNI Task group focused on developing specifications for providing Secure end-to-end telephone identities to prevent robocalls and other unwanted calls. Editor of the SHAKEN Governance Model and Certificate Management specification (ATIS-1000080) and Operational and Management Considerations for SHAKEN STI Certification Authorities and Policy Administrators specification (ATIS-1000084). Developing the related IETF specifications for the STIR (Secure Telephone Identity Revisited) and ACME (Automated Certificate Management) working groups. Developing architecture and solution proposals for new and evolved products based on the emerging standards. Responding to RFPs/RFIs for products the STIR/SHAKEN specifications. Working with CTO group, developed a prototype, providing the basis for a product to support functional elements of the SHAKEN framework, including a Certification Authority issuing the SHAKEN x.509 PKI certificates. Coordinated information sharing and communications between Comcast and Time Warner Engineering staff during pre-merger planning. Represented Comcast in the IETF and SIP Forum NNI Task Group.

Served as the vice-chair of the Unified Communications Interoperability Forum (UCIF) Technical Working Group. Provided technical guidance and recommendations to various task groups and the UCIF board, in particular with regards to new work. Objective of the role is to ensure alignment between Polycom’s SIP based Unified Communications products, in particular voice and video, and industry standards, with interoperability as a priority. Leader of Polycom’s IETF standards strategy. Primary internal responsibilities include: identification of protocol specifications recommended for implementation to ensure products remain competitive and providing technical guidance to product development and business organizations. Network/system architect for SIP enterprise and carrier products. Primary focus of the role was development of protocol standards in the IETF to support product development, as well as internally communicating the technical aspects and applicability of emerging standards on product development plans to ensure interoperability. Led a small team and collaborated with lead software architects of the core SIP proxy, SIP clients (desktop and phones) and media (conferencing and Interactive Voice Response(IVR)) servers. Developed a baseline SIP Interoperability specification/profile and worked across all Nortel product groups to ensure compliance with the specification. Interfaced with product management and business primes to educate and articulate the value of evolving to SIP/IP based products, as well as providing input to Requests for Proposals (RFPs)

Member of Advanced Technology group prototyping and evangelizing a converged network architecture vision supporting both fixed and mobile networks. Technical lead developing enhancements to Mobile IP to support interworking with GPRS in anticipation of the deployment of 3G. Several patents were developed related to this work. Provided demonstrations of the prototype at Telecom 99 in Geneva. Role also involved external forum engagement in IETF, 3G.IP and the Mobile Wireless Internet forum (MWIF). Served as editor of Nortel's Comparison of H.323 and SIP which influenced the selection of SIP as the call control protocol for 3GPP/IMS. Served as editor of the functional architecture document in MWIF and as co-chair of the Technical WG. Internally engaged with architects, product managers and business primes across all of Nortel's DMS product lines. Established a quarterly architecture review board to improve communications amongst product architects, network planning and standards development primes (3GPP in particular).Earlier work at Nortel included development of intra- and inter- system handover for Nortel's GSM product as well as an architect and software developer for MCI's operator services platform.
