"People." That's always my answerI am proud (and lucky!) to say that I've worked in three major cities, and explored different industries in each. I ran the Northeastern chapter of a LEGO engineering program in Boston, taught English in Tokyo, and helped beer brands expand their reach in New York City. Considering my experience, on the surface we're looking at a venn diagram (at best) - what do these positions really have in common with each other? At first, I was asking myself the same thing, as well as 'what do I want to DO with my life?' At times I've dreaded family parties, preparing snappy one-liners in response to this pervasive question. I have a studio art degree, I taught kids for 10 years, I've crushed at startups and explored passion projects, but still wasn't landing on a succinct answer - to satisfy Uncle Bill nor myself. It wasn't until I really sat and took a personal inventory that I realized what keeps me steadfast and engaged in any company culture - growth. Measureable, organic, hard-earned growth, for both myself and for my team. I always strive to share experience & knowledge, and encourage others to invest in themselves & their work. As a lifelong teacher, I relish in cheering on my peers as they pursue professional development, hone their skills and gain confidence in the workplace. The successes of my colleagues truly feel like my own successes, and as years pass those are the memories that most stick with me from each occupation. Now when people ask "what did you enjoy about your last position?" it always comes back to the same thing: "the people." The most rewarding aspect of any job I've pursued is the positive impact I've made on the people around me, and the impression that leaves.
