In 1988 my friends and I envisioned an agency for children and parents to find professional, compassionate behaviorally based services as they navigated the waters of separation and divorce. As a former mediator, I am skilled at working with this population. The clients would be angry, sad, retaliatory, fearful and motivated to find ways to keep their children in their care. With a business plan to develop a non profit agency and in 1988 began our non profit work, naming the agency for what we did, Family Assessment, Counseling and Education Services. In 1992, we incorporated and were recognized as a non profit organization. 501c3. This year we celebrate 32 years of bringing smiles to families' faces. Our agency F.A.C.E.S., has been lauded for its ability to maintain its business plan while providing quality services through the efforts of volunteers dedicated to the mission. Programs focus on support and transformation of the single parent in crisis. The agency's volunteers contribute an average of 153,000 hours to families caught in the crossfire of divorce. Generous donors support the organization, which relies on private funding for 70% of our programs.Each week, 24 classes in 4 locations are staffed by our volunteers Our Truancy Prevention Program provided 6 week group counseling for 418 family members. 82% of the students returned to school who had participated in program.FACES trains 15 to 20 therapists each year. In my spare time I write for the single parent website, Divorced Moms, and for Goodtherapy.org, previously publishing 9 articles for the Orange County Register, made a short appearance on OC NOW, and published a book called Parenting Solo. - a Guidebook for Busy Single Parents. Also wrote the ABCs of Anger Management, published by F.A.C.E.S., and soon to be published children's book, The Adventures of Backpack Jack.
