Mary Lou Mooers Davidson was born in Kingston, New York and raised in Saugerties, New York. Her decision to become a nurse was influenced by Doctors and nurses in her family who instilled in her a desire to help people. As a good student, she received a full scholarship to Kingston Hospital School of Nursing. Upon graduation she received the Head Nurse's award for exemplifying the best bedside nurse. Her passion was to make a difference in serving the most vulnerable.After obtaining her RN, Mary Lou moved to New York City to pursue her dream of becoming an intensive care nurse. At Metropolitan Hospital she worked as charge nurse in Medical ICU. Later she worked in Open Heart ICU at Albert Einstein Hospital in the Bronx, New York.Mary Lou developed an interest in chemical dependency nursing stemming from a series of patients whose cardiac arrhythmias were refractory to traditional treatment due to undiagnosed drug addiction. To gain more knowledge, she left the ICU for a time to work in a hospital based inpatient CD program for clients and there families. She obtained CD certification which remains current. Returning to intensive care, the information gleaned proved valuable in assessing patients for potential withdrawal. Early intervention in the ICU setting made a difference in positive patient outcomes and decreased lengths of stay.Eager to make a difference in a related healthcare field, Mary Lou changed her specialty to Emergency Room RN Case Management and has practiced in that capacity for 9+ years. Getting information right from the ER with justification for admission, correcting demographics, supporting severity of illness and intensity of service with real time documentation has made for better patient outcomes, decreased errors, and decreased lengths of stay. This is where Mary Lou enjoys adding value. Making a difference for people, by assuring positive patient outcomes, remains her passion.
