The Users' Advisory Group of the National Space Council was created in June of 2018. The purpose is solely advisory, to ensure that the interests of industry, other non-Federal entities, and other persons involved in aeronautical and space activities are adequately represented to the National Space Council and to the Office of the Vice President.

The purpose of the Department of Transportation (DOT) Commercial Space Transportation Advisory Committee (COMSTAC) is to provide advice and recommendations to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) on a broad range of issues related to the U.S. commercial space transportation industry.

The SSB also serves as the U.S. National Committee for the International Council for Science Committee on Space Research (COSPAR)

Elected to the Board of Directors of the American Astronautical Society in December, 2015. Founded in 1954, the objectives of the Society are to present to the scientific, engineering, industrial, and academic communities; governmental agencies; and the public those facts and theories which will further advance the astronautical sciences and space technology, guide the Nation's astronautical programs toward maximum achievement in space exploration and utilization, and inspire organizations and persons, especially scientists and engineers, to pursue these objectives.

Provided insight, analysis and counsel to CASIS leadership regarding space policy and policy environment, including economic development of Low Earth Orbit.

Provide strategic guidance to the formation and startup of the international “SciArt Exchange”, a startup 501C3 extending NASA's "Humans in Space Art" initiative. SciArt Exchange will integrate science and technology with creative formats, such as visual, literary, musical and video art. It aims to inspire and educate the public about scientific and technological knowledge and activities, thus promoting global dialogue about the impact of these activities on humanity, forming a thriving cross-disciplinary community, and advancing innovation for the benefit of all.

Member of the NRC Committee on Human Spaceflight, an ad hoc committee appointed to undertake a study to review the long-term goals, core capabilities, and direction of the U.S. human spaceflight program and make recommendations to enable a sustainable U.S. human spaceflight program, in accordance with Section 204 of the NASA Authorization Act 2010. The Committee's final report, "Pathways to Exploration: Rationales and Approaches for a U.S. Program of Space Exploration" was published on June 4, 2014.

Executive Advisor the CASIS Board of Directors, responsible for Strategic Planning for the Center for the Advancement of Science in Space, the management entity for the International Space Station National Laboratory (ISS NL). Led development of the CASIS Strategic Plan for the ISS NL, including metrics for assessment of the Lab responsive to Congress, NASA, OSTP, and OMB. Provided insight, analysis and counsel regarding strategic planning, policy, commercial and stakeholder interests to CASIS Executive Director, Chief Operating Officer and CASIS Board. Served as Interim Director of Communications and advised organization on development of position for a permanent Director.

Attracted capital, founded and managed startup focused on systems design, operation & integration of small Unmanned Aerial Vehicles and Systems (UAV/UAS), built to produce actionable intelligence for U.S. Homeland Security, domestic law enforcement, pipeline management and agricultural applications. Extensive market analysis and characterization informed successful development, prototype and operation of 3 systems featuring target acquisition and automated tracking & navigation, realtime video and data streaming, and "suitcase" ground systems from 2005-2008. Participated in FAA fact-finding and discussions regarding use of transponders and airspace corridors. Delays in emergence of regulatory framework addressing integration of UAV/UAS into the National Airspace (NAS) led to decision to close in 2008.

Developed program goals, business initiatives – including a “first to market” vision/strategy - for Boeing "system of systems" approach to development of Global Earth Observation System (GEOS). Managed interfaces between Boeing and National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA). Cultivated relationships in Europe and led discussions with external teammates and industry associations.Accomplishments:- Conducted extensive policy analysis of European Space Agencies and governments, focused on plans, funding, development and implementation of European Global Earth Observation System of Systems (GEOSS).- Conducted extensive market analysis addressing commercial interests with emphasis on VAR offerings optimized for earth observation

Selected to integrate and represent Boeing's Commercial Payloads Program to domestic and international science communities and space agencies. Developed key planning documents supporting an expanded program for commercial payloads onboard the International Space Station. Program ended in June 2003 after the loss of the Shuttle Columbia. Established and developed relationships with space science community including USRA, ASGSB/R, AAAS, and others.Accomplishments:- Drafted commercialization section of NASA's ISS roadmap for NASA Office of Biological and Physical Sciences- Represented Boeing's interests and explored opportunities for commercial payloads development and flight opportunities with the scientific community and industry partners- Managed teaming negotiations with commercial space companies

Selected to manage technical and strategic integration across 5 Boeing sites in pursuit of 3 major International Space Station contracts. Led "tiger-team" of business gurus in systems engineering, analysis, and planning.Accomplishments:- Led gap analysis across multiple contract pursuits and defined business objectives and opportunities. Identified efficiencies and synergies across contracts.- Cultivated relationships with customers and international teammates. Negotiated workscope and supported business teaming agreements with offshore vendors and teammates in Italy, Japan, and Canada.- Developed winning strategy for integrated Boeing acquisition effort leading to contract wins totaling more than $2B

Selected to manage key effort overseeing vehicle system and subsystem integration and operations development for the Boeing International Space Station Program (ISSP). Led a geographically-dispersed group of Boeing employees in Texas, California and Alabama and managed inputs from subcontractors and international teammates located in Japan, Russia, Germany, Italy, and Canada. Supported Flight Operations Reviews (FOR), Training Readiness Review (TRR), Flight Readiness Reviews (FRR) and Certification of Flight Readiness reviews (CoFR), as well as related NASA and multilateral boards and panels. Managed budget, schedule and performance. Oversaw direct reports, provided coaching and supported career development of a diverse staff. Deconflicted schedules, developed work packages, and processed contract changes.Accomplishments:- Closed 10 month gap (delay) in product delivery within the first 6 months. Instituted LEAN processes and eliminated budget overruns within 9 months. Achieved "by-name" recognition in Boeing ISS Award Fee determinations for two years. - Managed R&D projects with Alenia Aerospaziale (now Thales) (italy), EADS (Germany), McDonnell Dettwiler (Canada), Mitsubishi Heavy Industries (Japan), and RSC-Energia (Russia), including contract negotiations, customer relations, and business planning- Under Special Appointment by NASA to the ISS International Training Control Board, conducted technical negotiations vis-a-vis Astronaut/Cosmonaut training with the European Space Agency, the National Space Agency of Japan (NASDA), the Italian Space Agency (ASI), the Gagarin Cosmonaut Training Center/Russian Space Agency (GCTC/Roscosmos), and the Canadian Space Agency (CSA).

On appointment, developed and taught graduate seminars in Human Factors, Human-Computer Interaction (HCI), Human Perception and Performance, and Engineering Management. Provided technical expertise and strategic input to grant applications and served as advisory staff for grants from NIH, Caterpillar, John Deere, and the DoD. VRAC is an interdisciplinary research center featuring state-of-the-art immersive and other virtual technologies, supporting over 50 faculty and 200 students.
