With 35 years of state service, Mary is currently the Program Manager of the Deaf & Hard of Hearing Program with the Division of Rehabilitative Services (a division of the Virginia Department for Aging and Rehabilitative Services). In her current position, she serves as the chief consultant to counselors, vocational training staff, managers, and administrators regarding policies, procedures, and agency practices related to the provision of vocational rehabilitation services for individuals who are deaf and hard of hearing. She also provides training, consultations, and technical assistance to organizations, agencies and employers to enhance service delivery to persons with hearing loss. For ten tears, she was also an Adjunct Professor at Tidewater Community College in the American Sign Language Studies & Interpreter Education Program. Prior to her current position, Mary was a Regional Rehabilitation Counselor for the Deaf & Hard of Hearing, Adjunct Professor at J. Sargeant Reynolds Community College, Freelance Interpreter and also worked for United Way Services as the Director of the Communication Center for the Deaf. Mary received her B.S.W. in Social Work and M.S. in Rehabilitation Counseling from the Virginia Commonwealth University and is a Certified Rehabilitation Counselor. She completed the Virginia Collaborative Leaders Program in 2001-02 and in 2003 she received the Commissioner’s Award of Excellence. A native of Virginia, Mary is a hearing child of deaf parents and enjoys reading and spending time with her family.
