I am Mary Pat Campbell, working in the Insurance Research group at Conning. I am known as an expert in the life insurance industry, with a special focus on insurer investments and solvency-related issues. As an insurance industry expert, I analyze trends in life insurance and reinsurance in the U.S. from multiple dimensions: insurer strategy, investments, sales, product design, operations, and risk management. Topics I have written and presented on: General Account investment strategies and results in the U.S. life-annuity industry; impacts of changes to risk-based capital charges for credit risk on corporate bonds; excess mortality trends from the COVID-19 pandemic; issues in automated underwriting for life insurance.As a result of my work, insurance executives and their advisors gain valuable information in determining their relative performance, as well as help decide future business strategy. In addition, I am a promoter of spreadsheet and data visualization best practices in the actuarial community, conducting webinars and writing articles for the Society of Actuaries and ACTEX Learning.
