As a Women, Peace and Security and climate security policy specialist, Maryruth identifies the most compelling approaches to empowering women in peacebuilding and as environmental leaders. She is the Director for Women, Peace and Security (WPS) Programs and Senior Fellow at Pacific Forum International, a Harvard International Relations graduate, and the author of numerous articles. Using social science, feminist foreign policy perspectives/analyses/theories, and data analysis, her research focuses on the nexus of gender, climate change, and peace and security in the Asia-Pacific. Maryruth’s circular food economy policy work has been selected for inclusion in the OpenIDEO Food Systems Game Changers Lab, her graduate thesis, “Gender All The Way Down”, was nominated for the Harvard Dean’s List Prize, and she has held several research and fellowship positions focused on women’s leadership. She was selected as a member of Harvard’s Climate Leaders Program and the Research Network on Women, Peace and Security, and is a volunteer for multiple gender-climate causes. As a writer, Maryruth also uses storytelling to turn the mundane into the magical so people can imagine how women green business leaders could add $28 trillion to sustainable growth (26%) and how women peacebuilders would result in treaties that have a 35% higher chance of lasting 15+ years.

Policy Specialist, Business Owner, Writer & Editor, Team Builder, Project ManagerJade Creative 2006 - Jun 2020I use my skills in writing, research, project management, and strategic thinking to craft targeted policies, winning content, and thriving program. I’ve been lucky to have managed virtual teams and coordinated efforts for a wide variety of clients:✓ Implementing digital content plans which included the creation of 600+ blog posts, 50+ press releases and 20+ websites on a monthly basis.✓ Reviewing technical documents (legislation, media stories, and reports) on human rights and environmental issues to research and write 20+ white papers for a fashion industry client and 1,000+ articles for multiple green living clients that addressed industry challenges and gave audience actionable advice. One website was later acquired by RecycleBank while another remains a top consumer resource.✓ Writing and editing user guides, reference manuals, and technical instructions for every database system and piece of software my team uses. These pieces were leveraged to further ROI on subsequent projects.✓ Onboarding and mentoring 25+ writers and editors for in-house team and fostering an agile environment with direct and indirect reports using the latest collaboration tools.✓ Creating processes, managing budgets and resources, and supervising day-to-day internal and external operational efforts at all levels for numerous simultaneous clients to exceed targets and communicate progress on a regular basis.Outside of my client and project work, my interests range from green living to green business, sustainable building designs to organic gardening practices, ecosystem restoration to environmental health, human trafficking to social justice. Growing up adjacent to wild spaces, I developed a healthy respect (and whimsical appreciation) for things non-human, but my practical mind constantly draws me down to earth to ponder tangible solutions to complex problems. -
