• Designed and executed in vivo mouse experiments to identify how the gut microbiome influences bone/joint disease and implant infections.---- Improved the potential treatment of osteoarthritis by utilizing a novel mechanical loading regimen to further understand how different types of osteoarthritis develop in mouse joints. ----Promoted the use of the gut microbiome as a therapeutic to improve bone health by identifying pathways and bacteria linked to alterations to bone material and mechanical properties.• Managed and mentored a team of 7 undergraduate students from underrepresented minority groups.• Communicated my findings effectively to academics, clinicians, engineers, immunologists, and matrix teams. • Collaborated on 5 projects with laboratories at Cornell, Hospital for Special Surgery, Tufts, Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory.----Meetings with collaborators and physicians allowed us to reconfirm our solutions and plan experiments to address unmet clinical needs.

• Designed ex vivo tissue engineering experiments to maximize growth of cartilage tissue on osteochondral allografts to improve knee osteoarthritis treatments and potentially eliminate the need of total knee replacement surgeries.• Invented and designed procedures for allograft surface modification and stem cell adhesion to maximize the success of cartilage growth on implants by 50-75%.

• Developed a delivery system for an endovascular device capable of treating complex bifurcating aneurysmal anatomies that included a polymeric device able to absorb light at a specific wavelength, a light source, a light diffuser, and a balloon catheter.---- Prototype provided treatment of complex aortic aneurysms that were previously untreatable with traditional stents.• Manipulated porcine aortic tissue to mold and create a model of an abdominal aortic aneurysm to test the delivery and attachment of our endovascular device.• Earned “Best Use of Prototyping” Award at Design Day Judging Event.

• Analyzed the initiation and propagation of microdamage in cancellous vertebral bone by using image processing techniques and Individual Trabeculae Segmentation analysis to understand the importance of microarchitecture in bones.---- Findings are being applied to architecture of buildings to maximize structural strength of walls while reducing material.
