LEAD RESEARCHER, SOCIAL SCIENCE RESEARCHI was hired to develop, lead, and communicate original qualitative social science research at a state-owned historic site serving 11,000+ people per year as part of the Priority Updates to State History (PUSH) Initiative. As the only researcher in this location, I developed archival and secondary research protocols that reflected the goals of site staff, department leadership, and key public stakeholders. Over eleven months, I conducted qualitative data analysis and program evaluation using my skills in collaboration, project management, and social science research. Currently, I am supporting departmental DEIA goals by updating and expanding site narratives, contributing to K-12 curriculum development, and tracking new insights through accurate documentation based on my research.

SOCIAL SCIENCE RESEARCHWhile at UNC, I designed, implemented, and analyzed high-quality program evaluation research on five state government-owned historic sites in North Carolina, combining my skills in qualitative research, project management, and science communication to produce eight products that translated my research outcomes to actionable next steps for clients and established me as a thought leader within social science research. I honed skills in research and survey design and analysis; written and oral science communication; stakeholder engagement; team mentorship; successful grant-writing; ATLAS.ti; and Qualtrics. I especially enjoyed getting to travel all over the state and learn first-hand about the work being done to preserve and interpret North Carolina's rich history.TEAM LEADERSHIP & RELATIONSHIP BUILDINGPositive relationships form the foundation of my social science research. During my last summer of fieldwork, I recruited, hired, supervised, and mentored three undergraduate research assistants who helped me gather and analyze data for my dissertation. Getting to work with these individuals was a highlight of my graduate career, and I have maintained positive relationships with all three, including acting as a reference for one who, until recently, was on the job market. In addition, I developed positive working relationships with state government partners and clients through regular meetings, interviews, and listening sessions, ensuring that my research answered partner needs.PROVEN TRACK RECORD OF SUCCESSFUL GRANT APPLICATIONSDuring my graduate career, I applied for an won $150,333 in grant funding, including a National Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellowship (NSF GRF) and funding from the American Association of Geographers, the Landscape Research Group (an international and interdisciplinary alliance of landscape researchers), and UNC Chapel Hill.

PROJECT MANAGEMENT & SOCIAL SCIENCE RESEARCHI was hired to support the UNC Scholars Program, which is a network of seven merit-based scholarships housed within the Office of Scholarships at Student Aid. As the Program Coordinator, I supported over 400 undergraduate students through event planning and coordination, weekly email communication, and relationship building. During my nine months in the position, I coordinated and hosted six professional development workshops, three community-building events, and worked independently during a supervisor's medical leave to distribute 90 books to students within one of the scholarship programs. I also developed, distributed, and analyzed a survey for program feedback from students, communicated survey results to team leadership through graphs and narrative storytelling, and updated program outreach and events to engage 30% more students.

WORKFORCE DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM MANAGEMENT & SURVEY DESIGNI was hired to create an alumni network for MobilizeGreen, a green workforce development company that places diverse young professionals on paid internships across the U.S. in collaboration with Federal partners. I had worked with MobilizeGreen before, but had never created an alumni network from the ground up! Excited by the opportunity, I quickly got up to speed, connecting with program alumni directly through two Qualtrics surveys to see what they wanted from the network, and researching alumni network tips and advice from prominent resource pages. In order to ensure collaborative innovation, I recruited and led a group of four Founding Members of the alumni network. We met quarterly to assess alumni engagement and brainstorm new ideas. By November 2020, we had developed and implemented resources and programming for 500+ MobilizeGreen alumni across the country, including two social media platforms, six webinars, and ongoing resource sharing opportunities. When I left the position, I ensured a smooth transition through accurate transition documentation and exit interviews with remaining staff.RECRUITMENT & HIRINGI wrote position descriptions, screened resumes, and interviewed applicants for MobilizeGreen Resource Assistant positions with the U.S. Forest Service during summer 2019, involving screening over 600 applicants and conducting 35 interviews. Although I had never actively recruited for positions before, being on the other side of the interviewing table was a great experience, and honed my skills in oral and written communication, documentation, and Microsoft Excel. I loved getting to send the "You're Hired!" emails, knowing that these individuals would be connected with great employment opportunities in the Federal government.

PROGRAM MANAGEMENT, WORKFORCE DEVELOPMENTAs the U.S. Forest Service Resource Assistants Program Liaison, I worked directly with Federal government staff and clients, cultivated partnerships with community organizations, and spearheaded communication with stakeholders of the Resource Assistants Program, which engaged young adults in competitive, paid internships on national forests across the country. Stakeholders included Forest Service staff, 9 community partner organizations, and 226+ Resource Assistants from diverse backgrounds. I consistently and creatively supported all 226+ Resource Assistant interns across the country through webinars, newsletters, and events, culminating in the first annual Resource Assistants Program Conference in Washington, D.C. in June 2018. 100 Resource Assistants participated in three days of professional development and networking opportunities designed and implemented by me and the rest of the Volunteers & Service team.QUALITATIVE RESEARCH & DATA ANALYSISI developed, distributed, and analyzed three different Qualtrics surveys to obtain feedback from Resource Assistants and Federal partners. In addition, I allocated and tracked $3.5 million to youth and veterans projects that aligned with national priorities and that provide employment opportunities for 1200+ individuals in FY18. I designed and created guidance materials for Resource Assistants and their Forest Service mentors, including a step-by-step onboarding and offboarding guide and a web portal with program resources that are still in use by the program today, and hosted regular calls for 9 community partner organizations who recruited and support Resource Assistants

PROGRAM COORDINATION & SOCIAL SCIENCE RESEARCHAs a MobilizeGreen Resource Assistant with the U.S. Forest Service Volunteers & Service team, I developed outreach, guidance, and communication materials for four national internship and volunteer programs, including foundational guidance for the Resource Assistants Program that enabled the recruitment and engagement of 96 Resource Assistants in the first year of the program.I spearheaded and managed outreach that increased the number of organizations partnering with the Forest Service via a national youth and veterans work initiative from 194 to 224, surpassing yearly program goals. I also allocated and tracked $4 million to youth and veterans projects that align with national priorities and that provide employment opportunities for 900+ individuals in FY17, and I developed and performed a national survey integrating Forest Service volunteerism and visitation data with U.S. census data to identify five national priority areas for volunteerism growth.

CURRICULUM DEVELOPMENT & EDUCATIONAs a Fulbright Scholar in Madrid, I prepared and led courses on English language and American culture and history for 180 students aged 11-19 in a Spanish high school, and acted as lead classroom teacher for groups of 15-20 at a time. I developed and implemented original lessons on American social movements and civil rights with more advanced students, utilized the Speak Truth to Power curriculum to raise student awareness of civil rights struggles and activism, and developed and implemented evaluations based on classroom and individual level to assess individual progress and areas for growth.SOCIAL SCIENCE RESEARCHIn addition to my teaching responsibilities, I conducted social science research on urban agriculture in Madrid, utilizing qualitative research methods including interviews, participant observation, and archival research to investigate urban agriculture as tool, response, and subversive reorganization tactic within city space. CURRICULUM DEVELOPMENT & EDUCATIONI developed and implemented collaborative gardening, environmental, and nutrition curriculum for 50+ diverse students at D.C.’s Eastern High School. I also coordinated and led groups of volunteers on community garden workdays, providing environmental context and gardening education to 100+ community members over five months.DATA COLLECTION & ANALYSISI spearheaded maintenance and development projects for the organization’s 11 urban gardens, and researched and established plans for future site improvement to be used in grant writing and organizational development.

SCIENCE COMMUNICATION & CUSTOMER SERVICEAs the Education & Stewardship Liaison for the Block Island chapter of The Nature Conservancy, I developed and implemented public education tours for community members and tourists of all ages and backgrounds on Rhode Island ecosystems, Block Island history, and Nature Conservancy mission. In addition, I coordinated and led youth and community volunteers on regular public workdays of the island’s 25-mile trail system, regularly providing environmental education and context and answering public questions as needed. I worked closely with participants in Leaders in Environmental Action for the Future, a Nature Conservancy program that places exceptional students from urban areas in paid summer internships on Conservancy lands, and interacted with members of the public at the Conservancy visitor’s center, answering questions as needed and providing Island information. DATA ORGANIZATION & PROJECT MANAGEMENTOne of my main projects during the summer was to develop and implement protocols for organizing records of existing land trust holdings to enable a partner organization's designation as an accredited land trust. This project involved organizing hard copies of 100+ land holdings, scanning these hard copies into a digital database, and coding them appropriately. As the lead for this project, I learned a great deal about information organization and accessibility.

ORAL & WRITTEN COMMUNICATION, INTERPERSONAL RELATIONSHIPSAs a peer writing tutor at Bryn Mawr College's Writing Center, I met one-on-one with 500+ BMC students to provide guidance and support for everything from brainstorming ideas, to outlining papers and projects, to editing final drafts and preparing cover letters, resumes, and senior theses. In addition to free sign-up sessions, I worked with two students long-term every semester to provide more in-depth writing support and hone composition and editing skills. PROJECT MANAGEMENT & INTERVIEWSI was the lead project manager of organizing and updating the Center's alumni library, which included reaching out to notable alumni writers, interviewing them, and compiling that information into short bios for library use.

CUSTOMER SERVICE & COMMUNICATIONI developed and led public tours of Block Island's historic Southeast Lighthouse, empowering Island residents and tourists to connect with a tangible piece of Block Island’s history. In this position, I quickly and effectively developed my public speaking and engagement skills, gaining the ability to tailor a tour to the group I was leading and connect with people of diverse backgrounds and ages. I also gained experience in customer service while staffing the museum and gift shop. Part of a team of 6 other tour guides, I represented one of Block Island's main tourist attractions and provided information about lighthouse and Island history and tourism. One of my proudest moments was being recognized as "Lighthouse Girl" during dinner at a restaurant one night by a tourist from earlier that day! I had made an impression.
