Go Green Wilmette is a nonprofit organization in Wilmette, Illinois, that helps raise awareness about local and national environmental issues, create policy reform to increase sustainability, and help the community take action. Though I was initially hired as an intern, I became GGW's first paid employee in the spring of 2019.Specifically, I am assisting/have assisted with:** Beach cleanup program: I spearheaded GGW's beach cleanup initiative, which mobilizes Wilmette and North Shore residents to partake in beach cleanups along Lake Michigan every two weeks. I still run this program remotely. Our first summer beach cleanup program was widely successful, with a total of nine cleanups and over 150 volunteers. Dr. Meghan Campbell's lab focuses on the cognition and behavior of people with movement disorders, especially Parkinson's Disease. During my year of research, I analyzed cerebral spinal fluid and cognitive testing data to understand covariation of CSF protein biomarkers and cognitive deficits in Parkinson's disease patients, ultimately determining there was no global correlation. Specifically, I:** Investigated the baseline and longitudinal relationships between cognitive decline and alpha-synuclein, a-beta and tau protein changes in cerebrospinal fluid in Parkinson's patients** Utilized Excel, SPSS and PsychCorp to analyze data and create visual outputs for a final presentation to Parkinson's disease researchers and doctors

Dr. Paul Kotzbauer's lab focuses on understanding the cellular and biological mechanisms behind Parkinson's disease. During my time in the lab I focused on abnormal protein aggregation in synthetically mutated cells to understand the progression of Parkinson's on a cellular level.Specifically, I:** Introduced familial Parkinson's Disease mutations into HEK239-FT cells to mirror alpha-synuclein fibrils via mutagenesis** Performed staining and cell harvesting assays to measure alpha-synuclein fibril growth in-vivo** Performed daily lab duties such as cleaning and maintaining equipment and preparing solutions for future experiments

One of the focuses of Dr. Jordan Grafman's lab is understanding the impact of neuro-stimulation on brain activity, particularly in patients who have received a traumatic brain injury (TBI).
