The focus on quality is paramount at Micro-Coax and provided a venue in which I was able to confidently put my best efforts forward in all of my endeavors.In the vein of manufacturing engineering, I ensured the smooth running of an entire leg of the business and increased our capabilities to create more varied and complex parts that adhered to customer specifications. To support the day to day, I assisted the Project Engineers with creating tailored processes for the product line. As an internal auditor, I made sure other areas of the business were held to a high standard to ensure the company remained a ISO9001 and AS9100 supplier.I was afforded the opportunity to reach far beyond the typical bounds of a manufacturing engineer in a number of ways. I was able to speak with both the sales department and customers to make recommendations which would more reliably supply the customer with the parts required in a timely manner while making good fiscal sense. I also designed all of the fixtures and tools used for creating and checking of the manufactured parts within this side of the business.Along with the tooling design, I designed machine parts and integrated new purchased systems to seamlessly work with exising production lines in many areas of the manufacturing plant by simply swapping new in place of old, adjusting electromechanical controls or electronic control. Changes were aimed at - and achieved - reduced downtime, less scrap, higher quality product, or adherance to certain important specifications or guidelines. The changes here of course were subject to qualification to operate in accordance with both OSHA and EPA regulations, then must have the proper documentation for one to operate correctly.The project-based or job-shop business model gave a constantly changing set of priorities that kept things interesting and gave me an opportunity to better my aim on moving targets.

As a co-op engineer working for a branch of the company that does consulting and service for the passenger rail industry, my successes were driven by matching the needs of the customer. I enjoyed the opportunities to learn exactly what was valuable to the customer and then consider how I could best inject myself into the work in order to bridge the gap between where the customer was and where they wanted to go.This work had me doing various things from software programming, to creating presentations, to field service, and creating an operator manual.

Working with medical devices was an eye-opening experience for me as a young co-op. My work was focused on increasing the quality on some of the already stellar products of the company.Successes included new parts to address patient comfort, product longevity and reduced service requirements after thorough testing of prototype parts and updating the required documentation (ECNs, Routers). I also pitched in with characterizing and replicating problems reported in the field.
